The highlight of Tamil culture is the celebration of the Chithirai Festival. During chithira festival, the blend of folks , classical dance are portrayed. Concerts on classical carnatic music are now and then hosted by the stalwarts of Music.
“Sri sathguru sangeeth Samaj” is the place where concerts on indian classical music, classical instruments music (Violin, Mirudangam, Veena, Thavil, Nagaswaram and so on), Indian classical dance are being organised.
Madurai can 
proudly claim that it has produced the doyen of Indian Carnatic classical music Dr. M.S.Subbulakshmi. Her Subrabatham on Lord Venkateswara of Thirupathi is the master piece of her music.
The birth place of Nagaswaram Ponnusamy brothers is Madurai.
T.N.Sesa gopalan the leading vocalist also claims to be the denizen of Madurai.
Late Madurai Somu was also great vocalist from Madurai.
Madurai is always the platform for drama , theatre and fine-arts. Dr. Shankara Das Swamigal natak saba, one of the pioneers of Tamil Drama.
The Jallikattu (Taming bulls) is being organised every year in the village Alanganallur( during Jan ).The bulls are tamed by contestants and awards are given to the winner
